Chateau Petrus 1949 0,75L

  • Additional information

Chateau Petrus is the favorite wine of the rich and famous of this world. The flagship Pomerol wine is located near Libourne in the Bordeaux wine-growing region. However, the Pomerol wines differ significantly from the 1er Cru Classé plants of the left bank such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Latour, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Haut Brion from Graves. Chateau Petrus is a fairly small winery with only 11.50 hectares of vineyards. This is stocked with about 95 percent Merlot and only 5 percent Cabernet Franc. This fact is also the main difference to the above wineries, the high Merlot share is typical of Chateau Petrus and the other wineries from the Pomerol. The Pomerol area is located 30km north of Bordeaux and did not experience its steady and unstoppable ascent until the beginning of the 20th century. To the east of Pomerol, the well-known Saint-Émilion growing area joins the Pomerol. In the years before the so-called discovery of Pomerol wines knew the glorious names such as Chateau Petrus or Chateau Le Pin only among insiders. Unlike the wineries on the left bank, the estates can not be used for sumptuous castles and estates. Often the wine connoisseur will find normal houses or farms during a visit, such as Chateau Petrus. The best wines of the Pomerol arise on the highest points of the plateau because there the earth consists of gravel and loam. Chateau Petrus has just this soil composition. The wines of Pomerol do not have their own classification. Chateau Petrus received at the World Fair in Paris in 1878, in which the classification of the Bordeaux was announced, only a gold medal. The star of the Chateau Petrus was born in 1945. This is still valid today as a vintage wine in addition to the 1945 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. In 1925, the possessions of the Chateau Petrus in parts went to Madame Edmond Loubat. In 1949, the bustling lady could then acquire all shares in Chateau Petrus and call the estate her own. At that time Chateau Petrus was smaller compared to today, it only covered about 6.50 hectares. Also this year, Jean-Pierre Moueix took over the distribution of the wines of Chateau Petrus and was able to buy after the death of Mme Loubat in 1961 and a third of the shares. Today, Chateau Petrus is owned by the Moueix family, led by a keen wine connoisseur and businessman named Jean-Pierre Moueix (1882-1957). Chateau Trotanoy, Chateau Lafleur-Pétrus and Chateau Lagrange, as well as Saint-Émilion Château Magdelaine. However, Chateau Petrus is his showpiece with the best reputation and highest rated wines. The annual production on Chateau Petrus is usually only about 20,000 to 25,000 bottles, which makes an allocation in the subscription almost impossible. Especially the Russian oil magnates and the Asian business people pay almost any price for a real Chateau Peter. Older vintages of the Chateau Peter are therefore even more difficult to get and are guarded like the own eyeball. There is probably only one more expensive wine like Chateau Petrus, this is the Burgundian legend Domaine Romanee Conti from Vosne-Romanée.
