In retrospect, the vineyards of today’s Chateau Mouton Rothschild go back to the 14th century. The year 1311 established an important year for the reputation of the good today, the vineyards belonged to the countryman Pons de Castillon. In the 15th century, the lands were inherited and eventually belonged to a brother of Henry the V. It was followed by further changes of ownership of the Mouton Rothschild in the following years. Some owners were Jacques de Ségur and Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, who in 1717 the ownership of the vineyards of the Château Calon-Ségur significantly expanded. The property of the Chateau Mouton Rothschild was acquired by the estate in 1922, when Henri James de Rothschild inherited the estate from his son Philippe de Rothschild.
